Cheek line, the face reading, is a curve-shaped soft tissue at the forefront of the cheek bone and is a crucial landmark in facial aesthetics. Cheek line is located between the nose and the cheek bone in the lateral view of the human face. In clinical observations, we found that cheek line was advanced slightly when their mandibles were set back through orthognathic operations in treatment of mandibular prognathism. Even numerous studies have investigated the changes in the soft tissues after treatment of mandibular prognathism by orthognathic surgery. However, there is no report concerning the changes of cheek line after operation. The purpose of present study was to investigate postoperative changes in the cheek lines and facial profile after mandibular setback surgery.
